When do Arizona ESA funds arrive?
Arizona ESA money is deposited into your ClassWallet four times a year, in the back half of the first month of each quarter — roughly July 15–31, October 15–31, January 15–31, and April 15–30. It's not a single lump sum at the start of the year. And if your account is brand new, expect about 3–5 weeks after signing the contract before the first deposit lands.
The quarterly deposit schedule
| Quarter | Covers | Funded into ClassWallet | |---|---|---| | Q1 | Jul 1 – Sep 30 | about Jul 15–31 | | Q2 | Oct 1 – Dec 31 | about Oct 15–31 | | Q3 | Jan 1 – Mar 31 | about Jan 15–31 | | Q4 | Apr 1 – Jun 30 | about Apr 15–30 |
Each deposit funds the quarter it falls in. The contract year as a whole runs July 1 to June 30.
New accounts: budget about 3–5 weeks
When you first enroll, the account has to be created and connected to ClassWallet before any money moves. That setup typically takes about 3–5 weeks after the contract is signed. It's the single most common surprise for new families — so don't commit to purchases expecting funds the week you apply.
It's a wallet, not a paycheck
Because the money sits in a ClassWallet that rolls over while you renew, the quarterly deposits accumulate if you don't spend them. You don't lose a quarter's funds by not using them that quarter — they stay available. ([Do funds roll over or expire? →](/learn/arizona-esa-funds-rollover-expire/))
Plan spending around the deposits — and the deadlines
Two clocks run at once: when money comes in (the deposit schedule above) and when documentation is due out (debit-card receipts by Oct 31, Jan 31, Apr 30, Jul 31). A large purchase early in a quarter is fine — just make sure the receipt is filed before that quarter's deadline. ([The deadline rules →](/learn/arizona-esa-deadlines/))
Stay ready for both clocks
Knowing a deposit is coming is half of it; the other half is making sure every dollar you spend is documented before its deadline. Tracking deposits, spending, and deadlines in one place is exactly what ESAProof is built to keep automatic — so funding and compliance never drift out of sync.
FAQ
Q: When are Arizona ESA funds deposited? A: Quarterly, in the second half of the first month of each quarter — roughly Jul 15–31, Oct 15–31, Jan 15–31, and Apr 15–30. Each deposit funds that quarter.
Q: How long until a new ESA account is funded? A: About 3–5 weeks after the contract is signed, while the account is created and connected to ClassWallet.
Q: Do I get all the money at the start of the year? A: No. It's deposited quarterly across the contract year (July 1–June 30), not as a single lump sum.
Q: What if I don't spend a quarter's deposit? A: It stays in your ClassWallet. Unused funds roll over while your contract is renewed — you don't forfeit them by leaving them unspent.
