Is basic sports equipment ESA eligible for homeschool

Bats, balls, gloves, racquets, and protective equipment are Tier 1 — basic sports items, allowable with no curriculum document. They're the everyday gear of a PE or sport activity, so they don't carry the paperwork the broader category does.

The mistake families make

Two lines families cross. Footwear — including cleats — is always prohibited, so a receipt that bundles shoes with the bat gets the shoes clawed back. And bigger physical-education equipment (a weight bench, gymnastics apparatus) jumps to Tier 2 and needs a curriculum document; it isn't "basic" anymore.

The allowable path nearby

Instead of lumping shoes or a documented PE machine onto one no-doc order, keep this receipt to the basic gear only and pay for footwear personally. If you do want larger PE equipment, that's a separate Tier 2 purchase with a curriculum document.

The receipt still has to be complete

Every receipt needs the vendor's name, address, and contact; the date; a receipt or order number; an itemized description; and the itemized and total amounts.
