A bento box or compartmentalized tray is Tier 2 supplemental material — allowable, but only with a curriculum document, because a food tray on its own reads as a lunch accessory, not a learning tool. The document is what establishes the educational use (portioning math, Montessori-style sorting, home-ec units).

The mistake families make

Buying it as lunch gear. Without the document it's indistinguishable from the prohibited backpack-lunchbox-water-bottle family, and that's exactly how an undocumented one gets read. The educational framing has to exist on paper before the purchase makes sense.

Write the five-element curriculum document first — student name, subject, learning objectives, method and activities, and the tray listed among required materials — then buy.
