Assuming the animals and feed ride along. Live animals are prohibited (except educational life-cycle vouchers) and animal feed is prohibited as food. Families buy the coop on ESA, then find the chicks and feed aren't covered — only the coop structure under the curriculum is.

A coop or run for 12 or fewer birds, paired with an agriculture curriculum document, is the eligible piece. Source the chicks through a life-cycle voucher if one fits the lesson, and pay for live birds and feed personally.

The receipt still has to be complete

A yes on allowability doesn't survive an incomplete receipt. Every receipt needs the vendor's name, address, and contact; the date; a receipt or order number; an itemized description; and the itemized and total amounts. Missing any field can get the expense rejected — and undocumented debit-card purchases past the quarterly deadline must be repaid.
