Are motorized vehicles, go-karts, and trailers ESA eligible in Arizona?
No. Motorized vehicles, go-karts, and trailers are on the unallowable purchases list in the SY2025-26 ESA Parent Handbook. Buying them with ESA funds risks the expense being disallowed and repayment being required.
Why ADE says no to motorized vehicles
Anything with a motor that moves a person is recreation or transportation, not instruction — go-karts, motorized scooters, ATVs, dirt bikes, motorized vehicles, and trailers are all named. The list also catches one non-motorized surprise: multi-person kayaks, presumably because a family-sized boat is family recreation.
The mistake families make
The driver's-ed inversion. Driver's education is on the approved tutoring list — the instruction is allowable. Families extend that to the machine: "she needs something to practice on." The lesson qualifies; the vehicle never does, at any size, from scooter to car.
The allowable path nearby
Driver's ed classes from credentialed providers are allowable as teaching services. For paddle sports, note the handbook's wording bans multi-person kayaks — a single-person kayak for a PE curriculum is unaddressed, which makes it a genuine gray area worth an ESA Support Ticket pre-approval rather than an assumption either way.
