Are children's car seats ESA eligible in Arizona?
No. Children's car seats are on the unallowable purchases list in the SY2025-26 ESA Parent Handbook. Buying them with ESA funds risks the expense being disallowed and repayment being required.
Why ADE says no to car seats
A car seat is child-safety equipment — a cost of parenting and driving, not of educating. It's named on the prohibited list.
The mistake families make
The transportation rationale: "we drive to co-op three times a week, the car seat is for school." The ESA's transportation category is much narrower than that — it covers public transportation between home and a qualified school of enrollment, within Arizona. It never reaches the family car or its equipment.
The allowable path nearby
If your student attends a qualified school, commuter passes, city bus, vanpool, and even rideshare between home and that school are allowable transportation. For families schooling at home, there's no transportation category to use — and nothing in the car qualifies.
