Are educational camps ESA eligible in Arizona?
Yes, with paperwork. Educational camps are supplemental material that requires curriculum documentation under the SY2025-26 handbook. Travel, overnight accommodations, and food are NOT allowable.
Conditions that decide it
- Travel, overnight accommodations, and food are NOT allowable
What the curriculum document must include
- the student's name
- the course of study / subject
- the learning objectives
- the teaching method, with lesson plans or activities
- the required materials within the scope and sequence (this item among them)
Don't write it from scratch. Our free generator drafts this five-element curriculum document for educational camps — pick the subject, add the student, then print or copy it to attach to your ClassWallet submission.
What part of an educational camp ESA will pay for
Educational camps — STEM, science, coding, summer academic programs — are Tier 2: allowable with a curriculum document tying the camp to a course of study. The enrollment fee is the eligible piece.
The mistake families make
The fee is covered; the trip is not. Travel, overnight accommodations, and food are excluded, so a sleepaway camp's all-in price has to be broken apart — an invoice that bundles lodging and meals into one line can't be paid as-is. Families also conflate this with sports camps, which are their own Tier 2 entry with the same exclusions.
The allowable path nearby
Ask the camp to itemize tuition separately from room, board, and transport, pay only the instructional line, and attach a curriculum document linking the camp's content to the student's subject. Day camps avoid the lodging problem entirely.
The receipt still has to be complete
A yes on allowability doesn't survive an incomplete receipt. Every receipt needs the vendor's name, address, and contact; the date; a receipt or order number; an itemized description; and the itemized and total amounts. Missing any field can get the expense rejected — and undocumented debit-card purchases past the quarterly deadline must be repaid.
People also check
- Sports league or sports camp enrollment — the athletic-camp sibling, same exclusions
- Hotel and lodging — lodging stays prohibited even for camp
- Single tickets to educational events/venues — the single-day field-trip alternative
