Are amusement park, theme park, waterpark tickets ESA eligible in Arizona?

Verdict · SY2025-26 handbook
No — not an allowable purchase

No. Amusement park, theme park, waterpark tickets are on the unallowable purchases list in the SY2025-26 ESA Parent Handbook. Buying them with ESA funds risks the expense being disallowed and repayment being required.

Worth knowing

Single tickets to educational venues (zoo, museum, performances) are Tier 2 allowable with curriculum doc.

Why ADE says no to theme park tickets

The handbook draws a hard line between venues that exist to teach and venues that exist to entertain. Amusement parks, theme parks, and waterparks sit on the entertainment side, no matter how much physics there is in a roller coaster.

The mistake families make

The "educational" theme park. A science-themed attraction or a brand like Legoland feels adjacent to STEM — but the handbook's test is the venue type, not the marketing. The other trap hits at the receipt level even for allowable venues: multiple tickets on one receipt must be itemized or show the ticket count, or the upload gets rejected.

The allowable path nearby

Single tickets to genuinely educational venues — zoo, science or art museum, a play, the ballet, the orchestra — are Tier 2 allowable with a curriculum document tying the visit to a course of study. Plenty of Arizona field-trip material lives on the right side of that line.
