Educational workbooks, planners, and calendars are Tier 1 with no curriculum document. The handbook lists planning and record-keeping materials alongside workbooks as standard instructional supplies, cleared on the receipt.

The mistake families make

A planner has to be the student's educational planning tool, not a personal or family organizer. A general life-planner or a household calendar doesn't qualify; the version that does is the one organizing the student's schoolwork, assignments, and records.

The allowable path nearby

Buy the workbook, homeschool planner, or academic calendar that supports the student's instruction, and keep the itemized receipt. Tag workbooks to the subject they drill so they count toward the five-subject requirement.

The receipt still has to be complete

A yes on allowability doesn't survive an incomplete receipt. Every receipt needs the vendor's name, address, and contact; the date; a receipt or order number; an itemized description; and the itemized and total amounts. Missing any field can get the expense rejected — and undocumented debit-card purchases past the quarterly deadline must be repaid.
