Home / Can I buy…? / sensory items and assistive technology
Are sensory items and assistive technology ESA eligible in Arizona?
Only for students with a disability. Sensory items and assistive technology are allowable only for ESA students with an IEP, MET Report, 504 Plan, or ESA-purpose IEE on file, with category-specific supporting documentation.
Documentation required
- ONE of: enrolled course of study supporting the need; current IEP/MET/504/IEE indicating the need; letter from qualified examiner/provider/certified SPED teacher (with license number or Educator ID and signature)
- Highlight the relevant section of the document when submitting
Worth knowing
'Similarly situated' rule: e.g., weighted blanket approved for ASD students but not SLI or universal students. Pre-approval via ESA Support Ticket available but optional.
The receipt still has to be complete
A yes on allowability doesn't survive an incomplete receipt. Every receipt needs the vendor's name, address, and contact; the date; a receipt or order number; an itemized description; and the itemized and total amounts. Missing any field can get the expense rejected — and undocumented debit-card purchases past the quarterly deadline must be repaid.
