Home / Can I buy…? / medical services, supplies, and vitamins
Are medical services, supplies, and vitamins ESA eligible in Arizona?
It depends. Allowability of medical services, supplies, and vitamins turns on the specific conditions below. Medical supplies allowed ONLY if required by educational curricula — attach curriculum documentation. Medications/vitamins/supplements are never allowable.

Worth knowing
Non-approved services list: acupressure, acupuncture, blood work, chiropractic, craniosacral, dental, eye exams, health/physical exams, hyperbaric oxygen, massage, nutritionists, Reiki.
Whether ESA can pay for medical supplies or vitamins
Medical services, devices, and supplies are prohibited unless a curriculum specifically requires the supply — and medications, vitamins, and supplements are never allowable under any framing. ESA funds education, not health care.
The mistake families make
The health-adjacent shopping list. Thermometers, first-aid items, and wellness supplements feel reasonable but are out. A long list of non-approved services trips families too: dental, eye exams, physicals, chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, blood work, and nutritionists are all excluded.
The allowable path nearby
The narrow opening is a supply a written curriculum names — say, a specific item in an anatomy or health-science course — submitted with the curriculum document. A genuine disability-related need runs a different route: educational therapies and assistive technology are available for students with an IEP, MET, 504, or IEE on file.
The receipt still has to be complete
A yes on allowability doesn't survive an incomplete receipt. Every receipt needs the vendor's name, address, and contact; the date; a receipt or order number; an itemized description; and the itemized and total amounts. Missing any field can get the expense rejected — and undocumented debit-card purchases past the quarterly deadline must be repaid.
