Is bedding ESA eligible in Arizona?
No. Bedding is on the unallowable purchases list in the SY2025-26 ESA Parent Handbook. Buying it with ESA funds risks the expense being disallowed and repayment being required.

Why ADE says no to bedding
Sheets, comforters, and pillows serve sleep, not school. Bedding is household goods in every ordinary case, and it's on the explicit unallowable list.

The weighted blanket bought as a "calming learning aid" by a family without disability documentation on file. It's the single most cited example in this category because the item genuinely can be allowable — just not for everyone, and not without paperwork that exists before the purchase.

For students with a qualifying disability document on file (IEP, MET report, 504 plan, or ESA-purpose IEE), a weighted blanket can qualify as an "associated good" — but only when the documented condition actually relates to the item. The handbook's own example: approved for students with autism, not approved when the file documents a speech-language impairment. That's the "similarly situated" rule, and it's the only door into this category.
