How to pay private school tuition with Arizona ESA funds
Tuition and fees at a qualified private school are a core statutory ESA category — the program's original use case. The approved fee list is broad: application, enrollment, registration, lab, facility, computer lab, instrument rental, required books, supply, transportation, tutoring, and uniform fees all qualify.
The mistake families make
The payment channel, not the eligibility. The ClassWallet debit card is blocked at K-12 schools (MCC 8211), so swiping the card at the front office fails — tuition goes through Pay Vendor with a complete invoice. The other catch: non-educational school fees (parking, yearbook, picture day, cap and gown, spirit day, PTA) are prohibited even when the school itself is qualified, so a bundled statement needs those stripped out.

Have the school invoice you per the handbook's invoice requirements and pay through Pay Vendor. Ask for educational and non-educational fees on separate invoices — or itemized clearly enough to pay only the eligible lines.
The receipt still has to be complete
A yes on allowability doesn't survive an incomplete receipt. Every receipt needs the vendor's name, address, and contact; the date; a receipt or order number; an itemized description; and the itemized and total amounts. Missing any field can get the expense rejected — and undocumented debit-card purchases past the quarterly deadline must be repaid.
